ABOUT THE RIDE
The LIVESTRONG Ride is the Lance Armstrong Foundation’s (LAF) signature
fundraising event. This annual series of cycling events takes place in
cities across the country, enabling anyone to support the LAF’s mission to
inspire and empower people affected by cancer.

The Ride is a chance to challenge yourself, to push your limits - whether
you ride 10 miles or 100 miles, whether you raise $500 or $15,000. It’s an
opportunity to take bold action, in the face of cancer, in a meaningful way.

In 2006, there will be five LIVESTRONG Rides across the country:

Southern California - June 25
Portland, OR - July 30
Denver, CO - August 20
Philadelphia, PA - September 10
Austin, TX - October 8
You will have access to a complete fundraising and training program,
including website tools and a handbook, to help you meet your goals. Upon
registration you will be assigned to a personal coach who will help you
prepare for the event. In addition to your coach, mentors will be available
to share their wisdom and experience. Also, a team program is available to
help you network with people in your area to build your own community and
multiply the impact of your efforts.

Each LIVESTRONG Ride will be comprised of the following events:

LIVESTRONG Village (Friday and Saturday)
Pasta dinner for those who raise $2,500 or more (Saturday)
Ride (Sunday)
Post-Ride party (Sunday)
Riders who raise more than $15,000 will be invited to participate in the
Ride for the Roses in Austin, TX, on October 15.

Funds raised through the LIVESTRONG Ride Series support the LAF’s mission to inspire and empower people affected by cancer. The LAF serves its mission
through advocacy, public health and research.

In case you are wondering why I feel strongly with LiveStrong and why I would like to ask for our charity, please read on…

It was almost 18 months ago that my brother-in-law was admitted to the emergency room. That night he felt acute pain in his lung while sleeping. He crawled out of his bed and yelled for help. Luckily everyone was home that night, and he was quickly admitted to the emergency room.

The doctors found that it was a tumor that had grew and broke near his lungs. The next thing we know, he was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer - the same type of cancer that Lance Armstrong had (by the way, even though it’s called testicular cancer, the cancer cells were near his lung). Even though he was a healthy young man, we had no idea that he had cancer all this time. It was a tough period to go through for all of us, we almost lost him, and he is now pretty much cured. You would not think you can get cancer, but sometimes these cancer cells can lay low and when it shows, it may be too late. I would like to urge all of you to extend your hands to Armstrong’s cancer foundation - you just never know if you will ever need it one day.
