About Steven Chang

Hello everyone. Thank you for visiting my blog.

My name is Steven Chang and I am semi-retired working as a financial advisor helping other people retire early. Many people had asked me how I was able to retire myself at the age of 26. I refer them to this blog to find out.

In 1996 I started my college career at UCLA studying electrical & computer engineering. I’ve always loved engineering and electronics and back in high school I was alreadying self studying in the subject. My GPA and SAT score weren’t all that impressive but the engineering department at UCLA loved my background and my 36 units of GE that I have already accomplished in high school, and had requested UCLA to accept my application. To be honest, I didn’t want to go to UCLA, because I had my eyes set on Caltech, and I am glad I got rejected by Caltech :) .

College life has brought out the real me. I was a C student throughout the course of 4 years. I graduated UCLA with a major GPA of 1.998 and I had to petition to graduate (requirement is a 2.000 GPA). They let me graduated because I had 3 job offers waiting for me and I was not going back to make up my grades. I ended up working for a small company for a $50K salaray. Not bad considering a new college grad who barely graduated.

Long story short, the economy took a dive and 9/11 hit. I was laid off but I was reliefed. I took the opportunity to explore other options and I started my own web design and hosting company, and had also gotten a real estate license just for the heck of it. At that time I was staying with my parents so I didn’t have much expenses. My wife Cathy (my girlfriend at that time) thought that I should get a job so she hooked me up with a job at the company she’s worked for. I was getting pretty handsome paychecks so we bought our first investment property up in Big Bear, got married shortly after, and bought ourselves a condo in Long Beach. Right after we closed escrow on our Long Beach condo I put in my 2 week’s notice and fired my boss. I do not plan to work for anyone else, ever.

If you want to retire early, there are several things that you must understand, and several things to you must do, and do differently. I do not mind sharing with you because I have achieved it, but do you have and are you willing to do what it takes? I invite you to read my blog and grow rich with me. Start by asking what it is that you want in life, and create your own Goal Setting Forms.
