Many people are wondering what happened to winmx, including myself. A few months back I noticed that my winmx can not longer be connected to the network. A few days after I tried again, and winmx still can not connect to the network.
Then I did a search on the internet and found that winmx has been shut down. I guess what happened to winmx is that they got a cease and desist letter from (RIAA) Recording Industry Association of America.
However, what happened to winmx did not stop the supporters of winmx and appearantly you may still get a working copy of the winmx software. I used the patch from Vladd44′s website and now I am able to connect:

I guess what happened to winmx is a history replayed about Kazaa. There is always going to be a constant battle between good and evil, and different people takes on a different view on who is being good and who is being evil. One thing is for sure – we should all learn something from what happened to winmx. There is a well-know Chinese saying, “If you walk in the dark alley too often, you ought to bump into a ghost someday.”
